Head/Jaw Pulses:
Connecting the Head

The muscles at the base of the head, connecting head to neck are important in supporting the weight of the head and moving the head in its range of movements. This also is where we experience the connection of the head center to the heart center, and mind to body in general. There are different small muscles here, as well as the larger muscles connected to the jaw and tongue.

The Movement:
Find the place where the head and neck connect, either by feeling the base of the skull where it meets the neck with your fingers or moving the head in different directions.

Gather these muscles inward on the inhale, perhaps closing the jaw and drawing it back toward the neck. To gather completely, include pursing the lips and squeezing the eyes shut. On the exhale, let the jaw relax down and forward and open the face. Let the legs straighten as you gather and the knees relax as you open. If you like, you can let your hands close and open, mimicking the movement at the base of the skull.

To complete the pulses, you can gather and release all three areas at once, including the legs straightening and hands gathering on the inhale, and the whole body opening out on the exhale, hands opening, knees bending. Come to center, feeling the natural dynamism moving through the body
