Pelvic Floor Pulses:
Awakening the base
The pelvic floor is the strong web of muscles at the base of the pelvis. Its different muscles extend from the pubic bone to tail bone, and between the ‘sit bones.' Collectively, they support the organs and soft tissue of the belly and pelvis, and, through the legs, connect the body to the earth.
The Movement:
Find the pelvic floor, possibly by touching the bony landmarks mentioned above, or by contracting and relaxing as if to stop and start peeing.
Inhale, straightening the legs, and gather the pelvic floor up and in. Exhale, bend the knees slightly, and let the pelvic floor drop and widen. Do this for a number of breaths at whatever pace and intensity you like. You let your hands mimic the gathering and releasing of the pelvic floor by closing and opening them if you like.
*Note: It is more natural for most people to feel the pelvic floor expanding down on the inhale and gathering up on the exhale. Reversing this during the practice can intensify the energy in the area. If this feels strange or uncomfortable, let the expansion and gathering occur in whatever part of the breath cycle feels natural.
